Winchester

So here I am happily ensconced in my hotel in Winchester. The flights here were all good and surprisingly not really that tedious which possibly means I slept a reasonable amount. Certainly missed most of the Clash of the Titans – no bad thing from what I remember of it. Usual good Air NZ service etc. Bolted through the intense border controls at Heathrow – not. Could have had anything in my bag and they wouldn’t have cared. Got straight into a shuttle over to Avis. Have a nice little diesel Peugeout (however) the French spell it. Got out of Heathrow easily (thanks to Chas heaven knows where navman girl was trying to send me. Did do an extra loop – I think – because I missed – I think – a turn off one or those super huge roundabouts. But never mind. Very slow on the M25. Once onto the M3 south it was better. Stopped for a coffee at a service centre and had  a tussle with the navman which refused to find the street the hotel is in. But otherwise it performed well and got me into Winchester fine and I stumbled on the street without too much fuss. Have been for a first walk around the cathedral, college, castle areas. Seriously cool!!

  1. Loved the photo of the gravestone. The dangers of small beer at 26! Looking forward to more news of your travels. It's a virtual trip for me and I especially want to know the latest royal discoveries.

  2. yeah, so much for small beer! you will find that the sharon has subtle ways and your navigational relationship will blossom with time and patience! absolutely suffused with envy and glad you're having fun already. just finished peter's autobiography and am contemplating a yachting adventure for this whanau! Meanwhile G is in the garage making new planter boxes for the deck - so far that seems to involve a lot of circular sawing and hammering but no lathing (shock) cheers, S

  3. Ah, back to the small beer...Ju here but on the commune's netbook! Wgtn playing northland so Geoff is on the sofa getting grumpy and sarah is kneading dough. Wow we just got a try back against the taniwha. Geoff's planter boxes are a triumph. Has turned into a lovely day...and we won the netball despite the rain so finish third.
I finished Pete's book too but don't want to go sailing! He's coming close to being sued on a few occasions methinks...but it does say some lovely things as well. Indeed quite moving in places.
Anyway I had better go and have a drink - actually one has just been brough over the me...\
    happy hunting moi x
